We met online, like many other Fil/Am couples. We chatted for a while on a dating app. We moved our chat to Facebook. Then we planned our first in-person date weekend. We’ve been inseparable ever since.
We live in Panglao, Bohol, Philippines. Bohol is in the middle of the Philippine islands in a region known as the Central Visayas.
By far, the one thing that we always have to keep in mind is things getting lost in translation. Although English is widely spoken across the Philippines, understanding all the crazy nuances of the English language and translating between that and the Bisaya language can be challenging sometimes. 99% of the time, if we have a misunderstanding, it can be tied directly to something getting lost in translation in one direction or another.
As of now, we plan to stay in the Philippines. We do discuss starting the spousal visa process but also want to make sure the US will be stable enough for us to make a move that will drastically increase our budget due to the significantly higher cost of living in the US.
